Project Ehtiyaat, a collaboration between Enactus CVS and Enactus SGTB Khalsa, upcycles single-use plastic waste into plarn, reviving traditional craftsmanship and supporting artists. This initiative aims to reduce plastic pollution and empower handloom communities with financial independence.
Project Story
Launched on November 1, 2020, Project Ehtiyaat is a pioneering initiative by Enactus CVS and Enactus Khalsa that began as a response to the global COVID-19 pandemic. Initially focused on promoting hygiene and safety, we provided protective equipment kits, Suraksh-Kit and Premium Kit, adhering to WHO guidelines at affordable prices to curb the spread of the virus.
Later Project Ehtiyaat evolved to address the critical issue of single-use plastic waste, which pollutes our oceans. Our mission is to upcycle this plastic waste and revitalize traditional handloom craftsmanship. By doing so, we not only tackle the environmental problem but also empower traditional handloom communities, offering them financial independence and preserving their rich cultural heritage.
Our collaborative efforts with esteemed partners such as Arif Enterprises, Bankhandi Handlooms, Ganesh Enterprises, Kriti Life, Eco Workx, Bhumiz, and the Jitender Foundation have been pivotal in this transformation. The project involves the collection and segregation of plastic waste by our dedicated rag-picking community, followed by manual shredding to create plarn. This plarn is then handed over to skilled handloom communities who weave it on traditional looms to produce robust and durable fabric. Our tailor communities use this fabric to craft a variety of products, each reflecting our commitment to sustainability and eco-conscious consumption.

Our model ensures fair profit distribution: 40% of earnings go directly to the communities, 30% is reinvested into the project, and the rest supports growth and expansion, fostering long-term economic development and community empowerment.
